Sunshine and Snow: A Season of Contrasts

Listen to the message here:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens...” — Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)

A walk in the countryside over the last few days shows quite clearly that this is a season of contrasts. Sunshine and snow; the brightest sunlight and the darkest shadows; dark clouds followed by the clearest of skies.

And as the New Year starts, we look forward to new beginnings, but are faced with the same old challenges. New horizons to explore, but here comes another lockdown to clip our wings and shackle our ankles.

Again, we are reminded that we cannot put our confidence in the world, in our work, in our well-being, in our self-worth. Perhaps it is time to look elsewhere?

The Bible was written thousands of years ago, but yet it contains wisdom beyond its age – in fact, it is ageless. It’s as relevant today as it always was – perhaps even more so! The Bible says that there’s “a time for everything, a season for every activity under the heavens.” Time for lockdown, time for letting up; time to stay put, time to get out; a time to rest, and a time to rush around.

Life is full of contrasts, and this seems to be a season of more contrasts than ever. Sunshine and snow, hot and cold, light and dark, wet and dry. Every day seemingly bring another contrast. Nothing seems predictable any longer, nothing seems normal or usual. The world is not the same.

But the Bible remains; God remains the same today as He was yesterday, and so He will be tomorrow. What do you put your trust in today? Perhaps it’s time to look elsewhere?

May we pray: Thank You, Lord, that You alone are unchanging and trustworthy, the same today as yesterday, and tomorrow. Help us through these changing, unpredictable times; help us put our trust in You. We ask this in the precious name of our Saviour, Christ Jesus; Amen.

If you’re struggling right now, we would like to pray for you – please get in touch. Stay safe over the months ahead, keep strong, and put your trust in the Lord and He will guide you through. May God Bless You.
