Jesus Loves You!

Jesus Loves You! We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19 (NKJV)

A few days ago we celebrated St. Valentine’s Day. It’s a day where people all over the world celebrate their love for each other in word and in deed, giving cards, gifts, flowers, chocolates, or many other demonstrations of their love for each other. What many don’t realise – and neither did I, until I researched his history – that this was the day that Valentine, a holy priest in Rome around the year 270 AD, was beheaded, executed by the Emperor. On the day of his death, he wrote a note to the jailor’s daughter, signed, “your Valentine.”

What a day to celebrate! But Valentine believed passionately in marriage. Under the rule of Emperor Claudius the Cruel, all marriages and engagements in Rome were banned. He believed that the difficulty in recruiting soldiers for his army was due to men having strong attachments to their wives and families. Valentine, with his belief in romance and marriage, defied the Emperor and continued to perform marriages in secret. Of course, when Claudius the Cruel found out, Valentine was arrested and condemned to death. This was carried out on February 14th around the year 270AD. (More information on

However, this may not be the only Valentine who inspired St. Valentine’s Day today, as others have been linked to the celebration of this day. There are several other Valentines who may be contenders, and you can find out more on Wikipedia

But wherever the tradition started, and whether you have received a valentine gift of card in person this week, you are loved. There is One who loves you, our heavenly Father, Lord God, and His precious Son, Jesus.

We love Him because He first loved us.
1 John 4:19 (NKJV)

He loves you unconditionally, He loves you relentlessly, He loves you eternally. Whether you love Him or not, He loves you first. Perhaps you don’t know His love today. If you don’t, I pray that you will come to know His love for you, and in so doing that you come to love Him. God is calling you today.

May we pray: Thank You, heavenly Father, that you love us – unconditionally. It doesn’t matter where we are or who we are, your love is unfailing. May we know your love for us today. We ask this in the precious name of our Saviour, Christ Jesus; Amen.

If you’re struggling to feel loved today – please get in touch. Whatever struggles you have and however distant you feel, Jesus loves you today. May God Bless You.
