“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." — Eleanor Roosevelt
I’m not saying it’s easy, but the message is true – “no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Really? But I have never willingly given anyone permission to make me feel inferior, and yet, I have, often. Let me tell you, it was not consensual. Likewise, although I hate to admit it, unwittingly, I have made others feel inferior at times. And they never gave me permission or consent to do just that.
But when you think about it, no one can make you feel anything. It’s your feeling. It belongs to you, it’s created by you, and only you are in charge of your feelings. Nobody else can make you happy, sad, disappointed or glad. These are your feelings.
Therefore, when someone says or does something that makes you feel inferior – take control, and don’t give them the permission or the consent, or the satisfaction, by accepting that feeling. The Bible says:
We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
2 Corinthians 2:5 (NIV)
And Christ says we are not inferior – after all, He died for us all, didn’t he? And “we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus” according to Ephesians 2:10 (NIV). How on earth can we be inferior, if we are God’s handiwork? He created us, and we are not inferior.
So, whenever you feel inferior, remember that. Don’t give anyone the permission to make you feel inferior – you are God’s handiwork.
