“A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.” — David Brinkley, American TV news anchor (1943 – 1997)
Have you had bricks thrown at you? Maybe not physically, or literally, but you know what it’s like to have things thrown at you? Hard things – things that hurt you, emotionally and mentally, if not physically? I’ve had my fair share, and many of you will have too.
Jesus says: “let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” (John 8:7 NLT)
You see, most of the people throwing bricks at you have done enough things wrong in their own lives to have as many – if not more – bricks thrown at them. It doesn’t make it easier to bear, always. But there is some satisfaction to be gained in the knowledge that they who throw bricks are far from perfect themselves.
Take those bricks, and lay them as a foundation for your life. If you can do that – in the proverbial sense, not the physical – then it can change your life for the better. After all, if you throw them back, they’re still out there and available for someone to throw them at you again.
