The initial basis – the starting point – the beginning of all discipleship must be the Great Command (which you will read about in the first and second booklet in the Discipleship series) and the Great Commission.
Jesus ended His ministry by appearing to the apostles several times after His death and His resurrection, before He finally ascended into heaven. At these pivotal times, and immediately before ascending into the clouds, leaving the apostles staring towards heaven, He left them with special instructions. These included ‘The Great Commission’:
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

To use Jerusalem as a metaphor for the ‘City of God founded by Chist’ is purely personal conjecture. It is not something that is written in Scripture. Not everyone will agree or share this view.
We remain in the body of Christ – in the church – to receive the power of the Holy Spirit
Again, this is pure conjecture, and my personal thoughts. It is clear that some people are not filled with the Holy Spirit in their life, and wonder why. It is my belief that the church – the body of people who are in Christ and are filled with the Holy Spirit – can help other to become filled with the Spirit. You may find that this topic is worth discussing in a Chosen Discipleship group, so that the opinion and views of others may be heard.
Matthew’s Conclusion
Indeed, the ending of the Gospel of Matthew is the beginning of his journey – without Jesus – as a Christian. The same is true for all four Gospels. The end of the Gospels herald the beginning of their Christian journey.
We are very good
More correctly, it should read, “we were very good.”
You see, everything went a little bit wrong for us at the fall – when Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree that was forbidden them (Genesis 3). Once they had, they were banished from the garden (Genesis 3:23).
By the time of Jeremiah it was said that:
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked …
Jeremiah 17:9
And even Jesus says:
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus asked. “Only God is good.”
Mark 10:18
Only God is good, and it is only by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in us that we can be good, or get close to being very good once again. However, the process of sanctification (2 Thessalonians 2:13) which will return us to the original sinless state (and therefore, very good) is a lifelong process that is considered to be complete only upon our arrival in heaven.
