The initial basis – the starting point – the beginning of all discipleship must be the Great Command (which you will read about in the first and second booklet in the Discipleship series) and the Great Commission (in the third booklet in the series).
Closely followed by these, are the Ten Commandments, given to Moses and written in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.
“Then God gave the people all these instructions …” Exodus 20:1 (NLT)
But are they relevant today? After all, they were written around 3,500 years ago, when the world was a very different place. And surely, when Jesus came, the New Covenant replaced the Old? So, there’s no reason to follow the Old Covenant terms, and the commandments today? But Jesus said,
“Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses.” Matthew 28:20 (NLT)
