“God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.” — Matthew 5:6 (NLT)

The Beatitudes are a beautiful section of the Bible that teaches us so much about the kingdom of Heaven, the heart of God towards His children, and how our own attitudes should be aligned.

Poverty and hunger is a growing problem in the world, and affects many in developed countries let alone in undeveloped and poorer countries in the world. God cares dearly for those who are struggling with hunger.

But this version from Matthew shows us that it is not merely physical hunger that God cares about – He cares about justice and equality, and He blesses those who share his heart and hunger and thirst for justice and equality in this world.

You can read more about the Beatitudes in one of the booklets that accompany the Discipleship programme, and in the forthcoming book, Chosen – Called to Be a Disciple.

The #SundayScripture chosen each week this year will reflect the daily Scripture verse in the Bible app, YouVersion. Why not download the app, or log in online, each day so that you can read a daily Scripture verse?
