“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.” — James 1:22 (NLT)

As Christians, we need to understand that we don’t belong to a club. We don’t just go along on a Sunday to watch the service, just as we would on Saturday to watch the match. We’re not just to spectate but to participate.

We must do what God’s word says, not just listen to it. It’s not just a nice pep talk on Sunday, a pick-me-up, or a tonic to get us through the week. Sure, it can be that, we need that too sometimes. But it’s much more than that. We go to church on a Sunday to learn, to grow, to develop, to build ourselves up, and to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we can take it out and give it out to the world on Monday, Tuesday, and each day of the week until we come back again to be filled once again on the following Sunday.

If we arrived just as full up this Sunday as we were when we left last Sunday, we’re not going to get filled up, we’re going to get fed up. And guess what, others will get fed up with us too. No, we must pour ourselves out during the week, so that on Sunday we are completely drained, dry, hungry, and craving for more so that we can take it out next week and feed and water those who we meet during the week.

Don’t just listen to God’s word, do what it says. After all, as Scripture says, we’re only fooling ourselves otherwise.

Be blessed, and have a great week.

The #SundayScripture chosen each week this year will reflect the daily Scripture verse in the Bible app, YouVersion. Why not download the app, or log in online, each day so that you can read a daily Scripture verse?
