“Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” — 2 Timothy 2:15 (NLT)
Work hard. It seems as though we go through life being told to work hard. At home, at school, at work, when we don’t have work, when we volunteer, whenever we set about to do anything. And now, even in our faith life. Work hard.
Really? Work hard in our faith life? Surely, we are saved by grace, and not by works. We enter heaven’s rest due to the blood of Jesus and His saving grace, rather than by any good works of our own doing? Yes, of course.
But when you finally reach heaven’s rest, if you are anything like me, you will want to hear God say to you, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” It’s something we all hope to hear from our heavenly Father, is it not?
In that case, if we want to receive His approval, we must … work hard.
May you be diligent and work hard this week. Not for your salvation, but for God’s approval. Have a great week, and we hope to see you soon.
The #SundayScripture chosen each week this year will reflect the daily Scripture verse in the Bible app, YouVersion. Why not download the app, or log in online, each day so that you can read a daily Scripture verse?
