Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it." — Luke 9:23-24 (NLT)
So, you’ve decided to be a follower of Jesus, a disciple, a Christian. Now, don’t expect an easy ride!
Did you know that you have to give up your own way? How often have we tried to do things “our” way. We lead our daily lives doing what we want, the way we want, without asking our heavenly Father, the Lord our God, what do YOU want?
You see, He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. And if we don’t ask Him constantly what He would have us do or say, we end up doing thins our own way. And how is that working out? Hmm. Maybe not so good, maybe OK; but there is always a better way, following God’s way.
So, rather than fighting it, denying it, holding on to it; give it up! Give up doing things your way, let’s ask God what is His way for our lives. Let’s give up our lives; we can only save our lives by giving it up, letting go, and letting God have His way in our lives and for our lives.
