“The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time.” — Abraham Lincoln

We couldn’t cope otherwise, could we? All the struggles, all the worries, all the challenges? If they all arrived together, we would be overwhelmed! They are far better faced one day at a time.

But, of course, there are things we would rather not wait for – we want them now! The new car, the new home, the job, the money; better skills and abilities, greater wisdom and understanding, the knowledge and the degree; we would much rather have them now than have to work towards achieving them some time in the future. We just worry that we might never get there!

Jesus says:

Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 6:24 (NKJV)

Take it one day at a time – don’t worry about what might happen tomorrow or in the future. You have enough to worry about getting through this one day, today.

Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.

Proverbs 27:1 (NLT)

Take each day as it comes. Embrace the challenges; worry not about tomorrow; be grateful for everything you have today.

May we pray: Lord give me the strength to get through this day; and by your grace, grant me another. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
