“No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar.” — Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the US (1809 - 1865)

How’s your memory? I have to admit that mine is terrible! I forget the most important things, especially when they’re important for other people too.

But, however good your memory is, there’s no point in lying about something. No matter how cleverly or craftily you weave the most intricate web of deceit, you will – sooner or later – trip yourself up. You will forget the most mundane and miniscule matter – that exposes the lie – and the intricate web disintegrates to expose your misdemeanour.

Don’t rely on memory to build a lie; instead, rely on truth and build a life.
